Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Quad Cities IA IL
303 PM CDT Tue Apr 8 2025
.KEY MESSAGES...
- Rain chances are expected Wednesday and Thursday with light
rainfall amounts.
- A nice warmup is expected Saturday into Monday.
&&
.SHORT TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Issued at 300 PM CDT Tue Apr 8 2025
Tonight, high pressure will exit the area to the east with clear
skies giving way to some high level clouds spreading into the
area from the west as a surface low moves into western Iowa.
Some light rain showers remain possible late tonight and more so
towards daybreak, especially in the SW CWA. There is a lot of
dry air to overcome with dew points currently in the upper
single digits to upper teens. Opted to cut POPs to slight or
20 percent chance for the time prior to daybreak.
&&
.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
Issued at 300 PM CDT Tue Apr 8 2025
Wednesday through Thursday, two surface lows will track across
the area. The first will move west to east across the southern
CWA while the second clipper-type will drop NW to SE across the
area. Wednesday morning and through the afternoon, showers will
be lifting NE across the area. The QPF has been lowered
slightly. With the track, thinking is the NE third to half of
the CWA will see the best chances from mid morning into mid to
late afternoon. This would be for east central IA and NW IL
areas. Again QPF is light with most areas seeing under a tenth
of an inch. There will be a wide range in highs, with readings
near 50 NE to near 70 SW.
After a lull, rain chances increase into the 40 to 50 percent
range for Thursday afternoon as the second low tracks across the
area. This will be faster moving and is mainly slated for the
afternoon hours. Again, rain amounts appear to be under a tenth
inch. Highs will range from the lower 50s NE to mid 60s SW.
Friday through Monday, high pressure will move across the area
resulting in a rather dry stretch of weather. A low will track
NW of the area Sunday into Monday, but it appears most of the
energy will be north of the area. The fropa is currently slated
for Monday with only slight chances along and east of the MS
River. Temperatures will be the main focus, with 60s Saturday
rising into the 70s areawide by Monday.
&&
.AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z WEDNESDAY/...
Issued at 1220 PM CDT Tue Apr 8 2025
VFR will prevail through the period. Winds will become gusty
towards daybreak Wednesday especially at BRL and MLI from the
SSE. Confidence is low in regards to LLWS at CID, BRL, and MLI
from pre-dawn to mid morning Wednesday as well as whether
terminals will be impacted by light showers and potential MVFR
ceilings. Opted to leave mention out of forecast at this time.
